Who I Am!

Howdy! My name is Jack Whatley. I was born and raised in the coastal bend of Texas and grew up in Odem, Texas on my family's cotton farm, where I spent every summer driving tractors, checking cattle, and occupying my grandfather during the busy harvest seasons. There, I grew up raising pigs, steers, and heifers where I was honored to win multiple banners, buckles, and ribbons in my 10 years. In those years, I served multiple officer positions in my local 4-H chapter, 4-H county council, and school's FFA chapter.

After graduating from Odem High School, and moving on to Texas A&M, I decided to major in Horticulture. This eventually lead me to find the Enology program, where I have gone head-first in learning everything I can about winemaking and wine-growing. I have taken many courses such as the Intro to Horticulture class, Viticulture and Small Fruit Culture class, Enology class, Food Science class, and many many more.

After doing an internship at William Chris Vineyards, I knew I loved the wine industry. Upon graduation, my wife and I moved to Burnet where I dipped my toes into the industry a little bit, but after a few months, decided it wasn’t for me. So I now work with my father and became the 6th generation Whatley to be a farmer in South Texas.

While at school, my passion for photography truly grew. I found out about the Texas A&M Photography Club and there I was able to meet so many cool new friends and be able to go on cool trips around the area to take pictures and learn so many new tips and tricks for photography.

My 4 years at Texas A&M University have not been easy, to say the least. There have been many ups and downs, global pandemics, shutdowns, and so many more along the way. But here I finally am, post-graduating, helping start a vineyard! Thank you for checking out my page! Please feel free to check out my store too!.
